Dear Dr. Wilcox,

It has been over a year since you performed surgery on me to correct the hiatal hernia that was causing me so much distress. I want to tell you how effective the surgery results have been and to say thank you for giving me the quality of life I was missing for over 25 years.

I want you to know that I have not had to take even one antacid tablet since the surgery and that I am able to eat and drink anything I want without fear of the pain and burning I lived with for so long. Now I can even drink citrus juices and eat other acidic and spicy foods without being concerned about any after effects.

Two years today since my surgery. Not once have I had even a hint of heartburn, indigestion, or acid reflux, thanks to you.

I eat small meals only when hungry. I feel pretty good and ready to celebrate my 72nd birthday and 54th wedding anniversary in May.

Dear Dr. Rapeport, (a letter from a patient to her cardiologist)

Since my last appointment with you my health has improved immensely. According to you, I had a healthy heart and you could not account for the chest pain I suffered.

I attended a lecture given at Alvarado Hospital by Dr. Dennis Wilcox on heartburn and learned there was relief in the form of laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery. The lecture included slides presented by Dr. Wilcox and a thorough explanation of the procedure.

Although I had been examined by several gastroenterologists in the past 13 years, the thing they could find was a narrowed esophagus.

My appointment with Dr. Wilcox went well. He explained that he had to do several tests first as each patient was different and he tailored the surgery to fit his or her needs.

I elected for surgery April 2nd. Yes, I was in pain the day of surgery, but the next day I got up feeling just a little sore. I had a few eating restrictions and couldn't lift anything heavy, but otherwise I resumed my normal activities two days after surgery! On the 12th day I even drove myself to Phoenix and back...over 800 miles!

Best of all, no more heartburn, pain and choking. And no more antacids! I shall forever be grateful to Dr. Wilcox for finding my problem and having the knowledge and ability to correct it.
